Dear Sempre Fi,
What was more obvious to me were the long lasting, persistent smells that to this day can be triggered.
What can I say other than, thank you for being there!
Chaz

Many years ago I worked for about two years in a slaughter house outside of Chicago, Illinois. It was a branch of Hormell. That was a long time ago and I can still smell the smells and hear the sounds of death ringing in my ears today.
I went into the Marines to eventually retire from the military.
After serving in Korea and Vietnam I have seen enough blood and death to do me a lifetime and then some.
Sempre Fi

Dear Anonymous,
Well, if I never ate another piece of meat it would be no great loss so I suppose I lean in that direction. Lots of veggies, some cold water, wild salmon, etc. I enjoy good food created attractively.
You must know that as a hunter, trapper and fisherman I grew up eating every type of meat imaginable.
The mind is poizoned by what we put into the body, and meat, being hard to digest, slows the system, the entire man.
I do not persuade any diet but I know what my body responds to.
That is a long answer to a short question.
Keep 'em coming, Chaz

Dear Anonymous,
We are told that the olfactory sense is, of all senses, the most powerful.
There are certain times of the year when something triggers those old experiences, and suddenly I can smell them again. My father and I were trappers and hunters, we skinned the animals that we trapped, I can smell it yet, but faintly and only for a moment.
I no longer trap or hunt, haven't for years but it is still there.
It helps to realize that we change, we become different, better, kinder. Our priorities change. Oh well, such is life,
thanks for the comment, Chaz

Dear Prof. Hankes,
I agree with what you say completely except for one thing. You speak of, "One day".
I believe the 'one day' is upon us now and it is all so that the rich can get richer.
When people can no longer afford to buy food what do they do?
I believe it was back in the sixties, when butcher shops were being licenced to sell horse meat in Mich., when people were eating dog food to obtain what they considered "necessary' animal protien.
Back during World war 11 folks were encouraged to grow Victory Gardens, I for one am going to start what I am going to call, "A Protest Garden" so I don't have to purchase my vegies from the grocery store.
Thanks a lot for rattling my cage professor,
Chaz

" Bloody power brokers" will one day cause the death of the US as we know it - the rich will get richer and the poor, poorer, and poorer, and poorer. In the not too distant future there will not only be gas shortages but also food and water shortages - the standard of living in this country will change drastically. Greed and power are the knockers that swing the maul.
Prof Hankes

Cherylp, In the first part of your comment you laid out some interesting, and in ways most complex and disturbing questions involving personal choice, conscience, and morality that I feel a person must answer for him or her self.
I was exposed to it for a very brief time but it impacted me in ways that will remain with me until I die.
I long ago dicovered a forgiving and life changing God and I prayed that he would forgive me and rid me of that hardness you speak of and He did, replacing it with an empathy most profound. That is the primary reason I have the relationship with animals that I do today. Thank you for bringing out some issues that I perhaps would not have thought of. Please keep commenting Cherylp.
Sincerely,Chaz
