I would like to share a bit of my book, GARLOO’S, TALES OF THE GENTLE WIND with you, please let me know what you think.

Featuring characters created by Charles Towne as told by Garloo, a nice gopher turtle that lives in a very cozy burrow located in Wood-N-Dale, near the Wekiwa river which is called the river Nargoth by all of the woods folk.
WARNING! Before reading this first chapter you might want to check all of your doors and windows and make very sure they are securely locked.

A NASTY, MEAN AND NOT VERY NICE BEGINNING BEFORE THE BEGINNING CALLED A PRELUDE.

Fooble possum closed his eyes in contentment as he chewed another big mouthful of the sweet fruit and swallowed.

Oh my there just isn’t anything quite as nice as a feast of sweet, juicy black berries.

The warm sun lulled him into a comfortable state as he drowsily began to gather more of the delicious fruit

He was not at all prepared for what happened next for suddenly his left shoulder was struck a terrible blow!

Stunned but snarling fiercely he turned, prepared to defend himself as a burning pain seemed to wash over his body in an agony of fire.

He thought he was ready for almost anything but there is nothing that could have prepared him for the horror that reared there, hovering over him.

Fooble gasped in terror, for there, ready to deliver another blow was the most feared creature in all of Wood-N-Dale.

Fighting for some bit of control he dodged away and began to run. Stumbling, staggering, gasping for breath, he ran from the one known as “the Darkness” that surely, even now, relentlessly followed him.

Stopping his mad dash for a moment he turned and looked at his back trail with anxious eyes.

As he looked back searching for any sign of pursuit, any movement he really didn’t expect to see anything, after all, that was the way with the Darkness, you never knew he was there until it was too late, and then?

‘How could I have been so careless,” he thought.

Breathing heavily he started running again but had only taken a few faltering steps when his legs suddenly gave out beneath him sending him tumbling head over heels to land in a pain wracked heap.

Moaning from fright and pain he struggled to rise, to drag himself to his feet, to run, to live but it was too much, his legs were so heavy, his efforts were futile.

He lay there trembling violently, gasping for a deep breath of life giving air but even this seemed beyond him.

‘Must rest.’ He thought, ‘Must rest, must sleep. I’m so very tired, I need to sleep’.
He lay still as he looked up at the sky. The clouds seemed so close. And then he closed his eyes. The only movement was his chest as he labored to take one more deep breath, then even that was still.

That is where the Darkness found him.

The fearsome creature watched the still form for a moment to detect any movement, any sign of life.

“Are you sleeping my friend?” He asked in a low, raspy, whisper.

There was no answer.

Ever so quietly, the Darkness drew near until he was able to look down upon the lifeless form of his latest victim and then, in a low whispery voice he spoke, “Sleeep my sweeet, sleeeep. I will take care of you.” As he said this he laughed a low, cruel laugh, then, lowering his head he slowly began to open his terrible jaws.

And now I believe it is time for a nice happy beginning, don’t you? So that is what we will call the next chapter, A HAPPY BEGINNING.

The book, ‘Garloo’s Tales of the Gentle Wind’ is an easy read for the young at heart. As you read the twenty five chapters, (fully illustrated by Steve Ferchaud of Paradise California) I believe you will find yourself rooting for the wood’s folk. Have fun, but watch out for the one known as the, “Darkness.”
