Well, here we go again. I promised that I would give you the rest of the ‘BOOM!’ story so here it is.
Beaver, as I am sure you know, love to build dams. The only problem with their dam building is that they build their dams with little regard to what humans might consider ‘expeditious,’ to the humans that is.
Beaver dams flood highways and property which is wonderful for the beaver but not so good for the humans involved therefore we had been blasting beaver dams with great zeal until we were ordered to cease and desist.
The new idea that came down to us from Olympus was to live trap the beaver and transport them to areas where their efforts would not result in drowned roads and flooded land.
The new plan called for us to blow the beaver dam and then, before the beaver could begin rebuilding we would set clamshell live traps in the blasted out areas of the dam. When the beaver came to reconstruct the dam they would step in the trap, the trap would slam shut safely trapping said beaver all conveniently ready for transportation to his new home.
The only trouble was the fact that the beaver seemed to be smarter than we were. We set the traps alright, but the next day when we returned, fully expecting to find a beaver in the trap we were sadly disappointed, the beaver dam was well on its way to being repaired and our trap was nowhere to be seen.
We scouted around and discovered that the traps were being buried as part of the beaver’s construction materials. Yep, smart beaver.
Eventually we were able to trap the beaver and move them but it had nothing to do with superior intelligence on our part. I honestly believe that the beaver gave up, yes, they surrendered, due, not to our vast gray matter but our persistence.
I still enjoy hearing big booms but at my age who is going to pay me to play with firecrackers?
You have a nice day now, ya hear. Chaz
